Annie and Charlie's Slide Show |
|
Instructions After you right click on one of the links: XP and Firefox: A box will pop up with a download option only--click it. It will begin to download--notice what it is called and where on your hard drive it goes! When done (maybe 5 minutes for a moderately slow DSL connection), you should see an "open" option. When you click on it, you will get a security warning--see our note on "security" below--when you accept the show will start in a few seconds. XP and Internet Explorer: A box will pop up prompting you to "save target as" alternatively you can left click the link and you will get a box asking you to "run or save". Although you can choose the "run" option it will seemingly take forever for the show to begin unless you have a really fast T1 connection. Your better choice is to select the "save" option. Either way works, but tell it where to go and/or, or notice where on your hard drive it goes! Note it's name as well. When it is done downloading, use your Windows Explorer and navigate to where the file went and double click on the file. A security box pops up: "The publisher could not be verified….are you sure you want to run?" Click "run" and the show starts. Other browsers, other operating systems, and other option configurations will have similar dialogs. When you are done with the show, you can navigate to it's location and delete it--unless you want to see it again later. Security Issues: Since these slide shows are in a self-executing form (*.exe) you will get all the warnings. Our computers are fully updated with the latest antivirus software and all of Bill Gates latest fixes. Spyware checks are run frequently. We are running behind our own router and our computers cannot be found by nefarious hackers. The files themselves are up-loaded to the internet using a secure password. I suppose a really serious hacker could crack their way into our site, but lets face it folks, a personal blog is hardly the Department of Defense--who would bother?? If you are part of a company or institution you may be blocked from downloading of an executable file. In that case all you can do is to contact me (link on our home page) and I will shrink wrap it as a zip file. (Use your back button to take you back to the Slideshow selection page.) |
